The lighting for a planted freshwater aquarium should be between 5500 - 6700 k and should have a minimum of 2 watts per gallon of light. this will work for most plants but if you want to plant some of the more difficult types you will need to use 4 watts per gallon of light. plants require light for photosynthesis and it is a basic requirement.
